If you are expecting this to be anything like the Natural history museum of London or New york you will be disappointed so save you money (6euros). But if you are looking to see the flora and fauna of this little island it is a great way to spend an afternoon should be raining (like in our case). Our daughter... More

The Natural History Museum, operated by the University of Crete is nothing short of a pleasuredome and proves that history is far from boring. Situated along the coast road in Heraklion this will appeal to young and old, particularly the young. The exhibits are very well placed and follow a flow through. For youngsters it's a dream as nothing is bjhind... More

This was actually better than I expected. there was a lot of exhibits over several levels. Then on the basement there was an earth quake stimulator which I didn't go on but looked quite fun. they had a dig site for children where they could try and find bones. They seemed to cater well for children as there was a... More

A seemly small museum with display of different animals plants found in different environments, it also a living area with small creatures - great to see at feeding time as what had seemed to be a tank with one or two lizards actually had loads who had been hiding under rocks. The earthquake simulator is a great experience and there... More

During our visit in the Natural History Museum of Crete we saw a great collection of samples of flora and fauna. The exhibition ''Dinosaurs of Patagonia'' was also amazing and the earthquake simulator was an unforgettable experience! Don't miss it!!!

First of all the window stills with animals' exhibits do not have glass, so you can have a real close look. The dino movie is a bit long and more suitable for elder kids, but the earthquake simulator is fun for children.

Wonderful panoramas of the flora & fauna of different parts of the island. Very well done. I cam away with a much greater appreciation of the natural context of the island.

There was a temporary dinosaur exhibition which was very informative and interesting, but other than that I wasn't very impressed by the museum. I've been to much nicer ones of this kind. The earthquake simulator wasn't that fantastic, and the museum is a bit overpriced. Also much smaller than expected.
