In september 2007 during my vacation on Crete island I had visited also the city od Rethymnon with his Venetian Fortezza. The fotress is located on a beautiful place on top of the hill from where is amazing view to Rethymnon and surrounding. In complex of fotress are many diffrent buildings, which are mixture of medieval Osmanli and Venetian style.... more

The Fortress (Fortezza) is a must-see, even if one is not "into" history. The sheer size of it - from the thickness of the walls to the scope of the buildings inside it - is breathtaking. There are several structuress that were undergoing renovation at the time of our visit (mid-April 2005), but we could walk through a former storeroom... more
