It's a small fee to enter the ruins. There were so many tour guides giving tours while we were there we were able to pick up on some of the major highlights of the town. You can see artifacts and there were signs and stories posted when we were there a little over a week ago (it's a re-opened work... More

well worth a visit. small fortune has been spent on this and its well worth it. the displays and explanations of what life was like is very good. there is air conditioning and good lighting. the building itself is an architects dream. its 5 euros to go in and takes probably just over an hour. dont be misled by thinking... I came here expecting to see artifacts but all we got was a bunch of rubble. Unless you come with a guide, the explanations that are around the site were not very helpful at all and you might as well visit any modern site as it looks about the site. Don't waste your money here. More

A must see, even if you don't have an imagination. The site had just reopened when I visited, so it still needs some work and signage. Go to the Prehstoric Museum of Thira first, and the rocks and rooms will make more sense. It is civilization before your eyes from 1600bc....amazing really. More

Pleae ignore the ratings I have given as I needed to put those on to be able to write this warning! We travelled to Santorini by cruise ship so our time on the island was limited. Akrotiri had just reopened so we were really excited about getting there. We rushed off the ship and made it to the bus station... More

I visited Akrotiri in 1991 before it was closed for many years. It reopened in April, and i was excited to re-visit. It is now an elaborate covered site with millions of Euros having been spent to cover it with a superstructure. the problem is that the ancient materials, art and artifacts have been removed. It now looks like a... More

This site is completely covered in a permanent roof which is cool and airy whatever the weather. It is an old city which was covered by volcanic activity but has only had 3% excavated. We had an excellent guide Katy who really brought the place alive. It would be easy to navigate if you had mobility problems and ample places to... More

The archaeological site at Akrotiri has just reopened after being closed for seven years while a new roof was built over it. Having visited it 32 years ago, I was looking forward to refreshing my memory, but was bitterly disappointed this time. Access is by a series of boardwalks, and there is only one place where you can actually walk... More

This incredible site is now fully enclosed. You can walk through it on ground level as well as from above. This prehistoric site of a Minoan city just re-opened in late April after being closed for almost 7 years.! More

I was really excited that this unique place was reopened a few days before my trip to Santorini. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Basically you walk around the ruins in plataforms for pedestrians. Almost no information is provided. "What is this?", "What is that?". Guess for yourself, there are almost no signs. Actually there's a big map at the... More
