Taking the walking tour atop the ramparts of the medieval wall is highly recommended. Although the ramparts are only open only one or two afternoons per week (Tuesdays and Fridays, usually) and then only at a specific entrance time, the tour permits a very different perspective of the city's defensive systems and of the Old Town than is available otherwise.... The medieval walled town of Rhodes, built by the Knights, is the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The walls stretch for 3 miles and are up to 40 feet thick, forming an amazing historical monument. Strolling along stone lanes and sitting in quaint piazzas with fountains is simply magical. We stayed right inside... More

It is a compination of the western medieval towns and the Greek traditional resort. But there are more things to do there. Don't miss the view from the Old Clock Tower, the visit to muslim mosques and the muslim Library which hosts many very old manuscripts. There is also the Hamam (turkish baths) where you can have an excellent experience... More

What an amazing piece of history.....The old part of the city has been turned into a must see museum and an easy place to shop ,or just people watch from a cafe etc. Rhodes Archaeological Museum is housed in the monumental edifice that was the hospital of the Knights of St.John. Construction began in 1440 and brought to completion at... More

It's amazingly beautiful here, and there's so much to see! It's hard to navigate if you're working from a map, but I'd suggest getting yourself lost in the maze of back streets and alleys--you'll simply stumble across the most amazing little churches and abandoned mosques. We spent an entire day just wandering around taking in the architecture. More

Old Rhodes Town is encapsulated within medieval walls that were erected during the occupation of the Knights of St.John. This is the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe, which is now a world heritage site. There are a lot of attractions within the walls such as, Grand Masters Palace, Street of the Knights, Shops, Restaurants, etc. If you have a... More

The Medieval City in Rhodes is the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life. It looks just like a movie set, only it is real. The fact that this city has remained in such great condition for hundreds of years is mind boggling. There is just so much history to read about and look at here, we... More

Rhodes old town is very much a mixture of old and new. Established in 408BC it was developed by the Islanders, then by the Romans until the 4th century AD. As part of the Early Christian Empire the island languished somewhat and didn't prosper. The Knights of St John arrived on the island after buying it from the Lord of... More
