Lovely blue water over black pebbles. There are also steps at one end you can climb for excellent views. More

I'm one of many who believe that 'Mavra Volia' beach is the best of the island. This black pebble beach with the crystal waters was created after the eruption of a nearby volcano. In fact it is devided in three beaches, each one with special characteristics: -The first one is what you see after the small port of Emporios, three... More

I have a family home in Emborios, so I visit often. The small port town is very picturesque as is the beach. Actually there are two beaches separated by a small hill. The first beach is more of a family beach; most of the townspeople and children will be on this beach. The other beach is much longer and is... More

Our hotel was in Emporeios, so Mavra Volia beach was the obvious place to visit. The water is very clear, and a bit cold because of its exposed location. The black volcanic stones on the shore create an unusual scene. It's quite fascinating to sit on this beach and contemplate the force of the volcanic explosion that created the landscape... More

If I were to pick one beach to visit in Chios, it would be Mavra Volia, ie Emporios Beach (which is separately listed here; however, these two are the same). It is like no other beach I have ever seen in my life: big, round shaped, black pebble stones lying on the beach and in the sea. The sea is... More

I visited Mavra Volia about 9 summers ago, when I was in Chios with a university program. I was staying in Pyrgi, a village very near to the beach and, because I was working in the mornings, I'd visit the beach in the afternoon, a few hours before sunset. Most of the times, there would be very few people around... More

Mavra Volia really is a great beach! It consists of black pebbles that you cannot find anywhere else on the island. I went swimming there in September and the water is very clean and very deep. The pictures you can see are from November, that`s why the beaches are empty. But anyway, there were not so many people on the... More
