It was easy to get around the area and there were many signs letting you know what you were seeing. If you go in the winter time, as I did, dress warmy because the wind can make it feel much colder than it does down lower on ground level. More

The location of the Lions above the gate and thir apparent age lead one to want to explore the area inside and on up the hill where the fortress is situated. More

The Lion Gate is so called for the pair of lions flanking a single column above the lintel at the entrance to the Citadel of Mycenae. The Lion gate is one of the most Iconic sights in all of Greece. It has been photographed 1000's of times and published in countless books over the years, but to see it in real life is a highlight of any visit to Greece.
