Five days out from the lighting ceremony for the London Olympics, the site was looking its best. Undoubted highlight was walking the original Olympic track. Visiting the archaeological museum before the site was a help in understanding and appreciating the site. More

A lovely place to just walk around and see history. I was not prepared for the piles of stones, but was truly amazed to see carvings on many of the stones and was shocked to see that many of the so called stones were made up of shells. Parts are nicely shaded, but wear your walking shoes as it is... More

The site gave a real sense of the Olympic games from 776BC onward. The labels were well done and the layout of the site was clear from the map they gave at the entrance. My visit was marred by bad timing, first finding the site closed on election day and second having a team of gardeners running loud equipment the... More

The peaceful atmosphere. We hired a local tour guide to tell us what was the purpose of every building. Definitely you need his help and knowledge. More

It's definitely a fun and interesting visit, especially that this is a year for the Summer Olympics. Visit where it all began back in 776 BC and continued for almost 1000 years (until 393 AD)! See the original stadium and the starting line (and take a picture of your feet on the starting line or of your loved one posed... More

We docked at 1pm for the day in Katakolon on a cruise and took a shuttle bus to Ancient Olympia. We arrived at 2pm for what we thought was 2.5 hours at the ancient site. We toured the museum first for about 1/2 hour and then walked to the site. We had only just began our self-guided tour(by Rick Steves)... More

I toured Olympia as part of a group and didn't really have great expectations for the site, it was just on the to-do list, but I'm so glad I did get to see it. Everyone should see Olympia whilst in Greece. It was fascinating learning about the history of the Ancient Olympics, and the artefacts that are in the museum... More

We enjoyed this very much. There is lots to see and it is easy to imagine what it would like fully completed. We went to the Museum first so we got some background on the site. More

We recently docked in Katakolon, Greece and took the Katakolon-Express to Olympia. The service was superb, exactly as described on their website. Lovely clean bus, great host who stayed with the bus while we viewed the site. They also took us to additinal stops on the way back to the ship. Best 20 Euros we spent this cruise More

Visiting Olympia, Greece? You can't find a better tour than one offered by Niki Vlachou. Niki offers personalized tours of the ancient site for small groups (ours was 12). If you're on a cruise she'll meet you at the pier, drive to the site and guide you through the ruins and the museum. She's very knowledgable, well organized and very... More
