We visited the Great Meteoron in early spring when the surrounding countryside was covered in blossoms and flowers while the distant mountains were still capped with snow. This monastery is a place situated in the middle of Meteora. It is the biggest of all. You can really sense the energy of the place and the devotion of the monks. The view is also spectacular. More

The monasteries in country Greece are spectacular both from a distance and while wandering around the premises. One of these, was where one of the James Bond movies were filmed. This is the largest of the 6 remaining open monasetries. You simply must go to this monastery to see for yourself. A few steps to navigate but worthwhile. More

this is the biggest and very well preserved. the ossary is a bit creepy. museums are a tad dull and much is lost if you don't speak greek. the refectory has a very good series of portraits of the great and good of greece so at least you can find out where many street names come from. More
