The changing of the guard in the square is free to view. Don't waste your crowns to go inside, because it's just a museum of modern stuff and the royal family (these Americans were unimpressed). Instead, go to Rosenborg Slot, the old castle, which is much more historical. More

The castle is nice to see, not really impressive. We timed it so we saw the Changing of the Guard at 12:00 and that was fun. Across the way is a garden area with sitting areas and a bit further down is a kiosk with souveniers and a bathroom. More

We were too late for a tour around the insides of the castle, but nevertheless our evening walk after a nice meal and a visit to Nyhavn was quite an experience. While we were wondering whether the flag was up because the queen was at home (it is like that with Buckingham Palace), several dark cars drove by and right... More

How can you allow traffic to pass by the royal castle. I am stunned. It is disturbing the beauty. This place should be more serene and the area between the harbor with Amaliehaven and Marmorkirken should be closed down for cars. More

We visited using our Copenhagen cards. A bag locker needs a 20 DKK coin and it costs an extra 20DKK to use your camera in the palace. Visit much enjoyed. Changing of the guard at 12 noon, but get there early. There are 4 palaces on the square. It feels a little strange being able to walk so close to... More

People there were nice to talk with and shared tons of knowledge. The Changing of the Guard happens daily at noon and was worth checking out. And if the flags are flying, the queen is home! More

shortly after 1200 the guard starts its walk in the city, with full horn band if the Queen is in town. Can't miss this parade, ending in Amalienborg with the changing of the watch and a short concert. The whole district is marvellous, with access to the sea and several embassies. More

We had heard about the changing of the guard at 12noon and were not disappointed. Make sure you arrive by 11.45 so you get a good spot in the centre of the square. If the royals are in residence, then the guards are preceded by a marching band. They march through the streets until they reach Amaliensborg where an elaborate... More
