A beautiful and very quiet place in the wintertime (which means more than half of the year in Northern Sweden). During the week-end, when most visitors should be expected, everything is closed - the socalled visitor center, the museum house, the open-air museum, the shops, the restaurant... But definitely worth a visit. However, It might be difficult to walk around...

The church village of Gammelstad or Kyrkbyn is very pretty with its coating of winter snow. The restaurant Kaptensgården is great, well worth a visit. But make sure to book in advance since they only open on demand. But don't worry, prices are the same if you are 2 persons! Make sure to visit the exhibition at the Tourist Information, a great start to the tour.

But here there is hardly anything taking advantage of the opportunities that lie within this...

Due to the long distances, the harsh climate of the North and the will of colonisating this part of the country, people began to gather near the church and built there small houses they could...

This place is very fascinating, but besides the narrow streets and the atmosphere there is little to see and/or do. However, the place is still worth a visit - take a couple of hours to wander the alleys and enjoy the atmosphere.
