The museum ethos was to remain apart from the ideological education practiced by other Lenin museums, as well as from a tendency toward a ‘Lenin cult’. Today, the museum, among other things, collects, exhibits and researches material related to Lenin's life and activities and the history of the Soviet Union/Russia, particularly where the material relates to connections with Finland and the Finns. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union many documents, creating a more accurate picture of Lenin, have been unearthed from various archives. In the 1990s the old objects and symbol world of old Soviet socialism became museum goods. At the same time that this unique body of material faces the threat of destruction, the importance of the Lenin museum as the recorder of an entire era has grown. « less

Amazing museum and so very interesting.....some of the history is quite distressing but the information and artifacts are well worth seeing. my only gripe (and it is a small one) is that the English translation could have been better than the catologue you are given that corresponds with the displays.......it was a bit confusing. It's ok, but not really that interesting, if you aren't interested in the subject. Might be a tad bit tricky to find. More

I didn't enjoy the museum at all, thinking that I could have saved the 5 Euros per person and parking and just read the information and looked at pictures online. However, my husband really enjoyed it. His point of view follows -- For me, the museum was a selection of mental morsels to feed my interest and learn more about... More

Although this place is quite small, it is packed with amazing stuff for anyone interested in the Soviet Union. There is a play area with toys and colouring books to keep small children entertained while you look around. It must be said, the gift shop is amazing. All sorts of bizarre Lenin related stuff, including gift bags plastered with his... More

You wouldn't think that Tampere would have so much history and culture but it seems to have without shoving it in your face. It's subtle and at times difficult to find much like the Lenin Museum itself which I found hard to find but well worth the search! The Museum is right on the side of a main road in... More

I did not like it at all. It seems an exibition made by scholars kids with copy of letters and pictures glue on big sheets of paper. Everything was writen in finnish, or russian. It´s small, and all information presented can be read as well on internet. The fee of 5 euros is too much for what it is really More

A very dedicated team of people (mostly volunteers) have kept this tiny museum in perfect condition for many years. We were quite taken aback by the apparently favorable light in which Lenin and Soviet history were shown, until we spoke to one of the staff who explained that the museum was set up in the period when the USSR still...
