I wish they had finished the repairs before our visit because the scaffolding really takes away the beauty of the church. It is clearly a national icon to be proud of and graces the cover of many tourist maps, etc. However in it's current state it is not worth stopping at. more

Hallgrimskirkje is visible from most of Reykjavik and serves as a navigational landmark for visitors. I went up the church tower in early February, but the view was not the slightest bit impressive - if taking photos you have to zoom out in order to cut out any scaffolding poles and the view is very limited. The Perlan is much more advisable for views of the city. more

When we visited in October 2008, Hallgrimur's Church was covered in scaffolding and surrounded by construction workers.
