We booked a tour w/ IcelandAir (part of their packages) and it was an amazing experience. Our tour guide was funny and very informative. We learned a lot about the glaciers. "what the glacier takes, it always returns....albeit, in 5 yrs or so, and always in a new location" due to their always evolving nature.
Getting there: Our bus came...

Crampons and an ice axe - I felt like an adventureress. The glacier is amazing - black and white and blue and grey. Great experience!

We booked a trip with the local tourism centre but drove ourselves as we had car hire. So glad we did as we got to stop off and see some amazing waterfalls before stepping foot on the glacier. I can't remember the tour we went with but our guide was super helpful and very knowledgeable. I'm sure the local tourist...

My sister and I had a private tour with the owner of the Volcano hotel. We applied crampons and hiked on the glacier for about 2 hours. Spectacular ice formations including caves and tunnels. Our best experience in Iceland.

Amazing that you can hike right up to and along the side of a glacier. The views were spectacular and the experience invigorating.

Standing next to it and looking underneath, you really appreciate just how huge this single sheet of ice is. It's been...

Myrdalsjokull is a very large glacier just above Vik on Iceland's south coast. Tour companies can take you up here in all-terrain vehicles for a camp-over, but most who get to spend time on the ice access the glacier via a finger-like extension named Solheimajokull which is visible from the main coastal road and is accessed by a dirt road...
