We specifically aimed for the day and time to visit Fort Rinella when the big "drill" is going on with "dozen of soldiers" fighting, shooting, galloping etc. When we arrived, we were the only ones at the fort, with the exception of our guide, the lady that sold us the 10 Euro tickets (each - outrageous!!!) and a cute cat.... Malta is so full of history & I was not really aware of what a nice place it is & how big a part Malta took in the war. We visited Fort Rinella , The Lascaris War Rooms & Malta at war museum during the course of 2 days. All were so informative, the guides are all so passionate about... More

Noon-Day Gun (Valletta) may serve as an appetiser but this is the real thing! Of course they will not fire the 100 ton Armstrong, but the howitzer they actually do. Together with some firearms and drill instructions they revive early 20 th century British Army life. And you can be part of it. Aside the fun the guide knows what... More

We got the free transport here from Malta at War in Birgu and were glad that we visited. The fort is manned by staff wearing Victorian dress and the tour was most interesting. There was a chance to fire a cannon (at an extra cost) and to see military drill being carried out. The entrance fee was a bit high... More

Fort Rinella was built in the 1880's by the British to house the enormous 100 ton Armstrong gun as part of the defences guarding Malta from the Italians. It was manned by 34 soldiers and recent excavation work allows you to see how they lived and worked in this garrison. A group of very enthusiastic young men dressed in Victorian... More

This is the fort built specifically to house the Armstrong 100 ton gun - a muzzle loading cannon which was capable of firing a 1-ton shell a distance of 8 miles! The fort is being sympathetically restored, the gun is still there, and you get the chance to fire a rifle or an 8 inch Howitzer. Better still, buy a... More
