All the finds at the temples you've visited that are no longer there--well, here they are. They are the reason to spend an hour or two perusing the exhibits in this museum. Once you see them (and in the many photographs that line the walls you can see them still in situ) the experience of viewing the temples themselves is... More

We only visited as we had the combined ticket and we wanted to see the building. What a surprise - the sleeping fat lady and a few other pieces from the excavations that ended up in this museum left us gobsmacked. We had seen it in pictures and on video, experiencing the real things proved unbeatable, of a different order. More

The original spiral-engraved stones from Tarxien megalithic temple are here, preserved from decay and destruction. As is what remains of a huge stone idol. AND the original "sleeping lady" statuette found in the Hypogeum. Well worth visiting. More

The title above could just as well refer to the principal exhibit of the musem, the 'Sleeping Lady', an intricately carved sculpture discovered in the Hypogeum site. Likewise, the museum is pretty small but then so is the entrance fee and it's worth a visit if you are in Valletta with half an hour to spare and a desire to... More

Having visited most of the major archeological temple sites on Malta and Gozo, we had to come here to see some of the original and most important carvings and statues (there are replicas on each site) More

With what could be dull subject matter the presentation of the material is clear and meaningful aided by some good videos. Special exhibitions at no extra cost are a bonus, I saw a very interesting and new to me area of Spanish decorative metal work. In Feb the building was quite cold but is probably a pleasant shady place in... More

The former grand palazzo Auberge de Provence originally built for the Knights in 1571. The museum is in the center of Valletta on Republic street and house a fascinating collection of archaeological finds covering the 6000 years of Maltese history. The objects are clearly labeled and there are creative exhibitions explaining some of the mysteries of Malta. On the first... More

It is a small but very informative collection in terms of Malta's prehistoric past. Not just the history of the Stone Age and Bronze Age cultures, but how they have been rediscovered since the 19th century. I loved the fact that they don't show only replicas, like in many museums, but the genuine sculptures and slabs. I also loved the... More
