Not morbid at all - it is very interesting. The village is so small that the old Graveyard had to be condensed, so they just kept the skulls.
Very interesting, quick sight. The Catholic church is worth a look and the little cemetary is one of the quaintest you'll see. If the thought of stacked painted skulls doesn't do it for you, then don't add the ossuary (the rest is free), but i found it fascinating.
Peaceful and quiet place, where you can feel how fragile is our life.
Be prepared to pay to enter - we paid 1.50 Euros each, and got a sheet explaining the history in English. It's a small, damp room, I can't imagine spending more than about 15 minutes in there. Even though you wouldn't need to add this place to your visit list because Hallstat alone is worth a visit - the Hallstatt Ossuary is one of the most interesting and unique things I have visited in Europe. It kind of creeped out my wife but once she soaked in the historical aspects of the place she starting taking pictures...
