This was a really pleasant surprise. It is immediately adjacent to the Hofkirche and is an impressive collection of Tyrolean "stuff," from simple tools to beautifully-carved furniture to reconstructed Tyrolean "zimmer," rooms from Alpine homes that have been disassembled and re-assembled wihtin the Volkskunstmuseum. I really enjoyed visiting the museum, especially viewing the "Stuben". There are also lots of interesting artifacts to see. Also not to be missed is the church next door, which has the same entrance as the museum.

My family of inveterate museum-goers visited here in 2002. I still think about this museum as one of the most interesting I have seen. If you are going to the Hofkirche, visit this as well. They are attached to each other. Wonderful examples of traditional costumes, carvings etc. Nicely displayed and organized.

Great displays of rural homes from the middle ages. Excellent audio effects. Nice cafe. Church cloisters lovely

The Tyrolean museum has a huge number of exhibits and artifacts--and we found most of it very interesting. They transferred entire rooms from old houses and set them up in the museum--my wife is especially interested in architecture and interior design, so these rooms really wowed her.

Very well put together museum showing what life was like in old Tirol. Surprisingly, many of the tools, crafts, dishes, etc were similar to what you find in the Amish areas of the United States. This is a true gem in Innsbruck. I usually dont get to effusive about local museums but this one was great. Excellent view back into history of the area.....dont let the "folk" in the name throw you off. Well worth the visit and also has a cute cafe and gift shop. Do visit!
