Having visited on several occasions before, I still was excited to visit St Stephen's once again. Even if you're "churched out" from a European tour of many, you'll still find a visit to this beautiful cathedral worth your while. A great view over the amazing cathedral roof and it's beautiful colourful tiles and further afield over Vienna, the Prater and... More

There are many beautiful churches in Vienna but this one was especially beautiful and unique because of all of the little signs by each area of the church describing that part's history/unique features. I wish we would have had time to do one of the guided tours of the church and crypt.

Badly lit, badly maintained and just a bit tawdry. Not really very exciting. The roof outside is pretty though

It's stunning from the outside, but the problem when you go inside is that your breath is taken away. Go on your own tour first, then go back next day or whatever and take the tour, it makes everything even more spectacular.

We did not do the interior of the interior tour, but went around to the various alcoves and altars on the periphery of the church. Incredible stonework that managed to look lacy and weightless. On the exterior, be sure to walk completely around the church and look at the statues and roof. The tile pattern of the roof varies from... More

We stopped in during an evening mass and saw the entire church lit with pink and blue lights inside. It looked tie-dyed and a bit weird. But the organ music reverberated as worshippers left, so I think we got a slightly different view of the church than normal.

Since we stayed in Pension Sacher which had a very very good view of the front and tiled roof of the Cathedral, we were able to appreciate the beauty of the Cathedral at all times (dawn, dusk, daytime..)and were so mesmerized with the architecture. Inside was also fascinating. They have a small souvenir shop to the left of the entrance.

disliked the odd blue and red colored lights inside the cathedral, which made a mottled effect on the pillars and walls: What was that about??? Someone has a strange idea of 'lighting'.

Did tour and elevator to bell and views. Elevator was enough. restoration efforts cover the glass with strips of colored plastic sheeting that cast a kaleidoscope of color through the interior like a watercolor effect - wild!
