There are no words to even being to describe ALL of the massive amounts of jewels these people owned. You know it is going to be something special when you enter doors that are at least a foot thick made of steel. Be sure to have cash though as we had to go back and get some in order to...

The treasury houses many beautiful pieces from garments to swords, to chalices and so on. The audio guide was a little boring and you can read most of the key information on each piece but it does go into more detail if you want.
You can take photos but without flash.
There are so many side rooms and passages which...

The Imperial Treasury (Schatzkammer) is a wonderful place to visit if you are interested in history, and specifically in Habsburg or Medieval History, in jewelry or in historical costume.
It is not a big museum, and like almost everything else in Vienna, it is pricy when compared with size of the collection and time it takes to walk it. I...

This museum, the Schatzkammer, is the best. There are gems and relics of both the Holy Roman Empire and the Austrian Empire. Also the history of the Austrian nation and the jewels is explained. The entrance is on the Schweizerhof.
We have seen the two items who were considered to be so unique that they were declared “inalienable heirlooms of...

There is a portrait of Napoleon by Andres Appiani that is...

Cool collection of treasures that doesn't take too long to see. Worth it if you have time, Charlemagne's crown is here, but not essential if you are getting museum feet or fatigue.
I don't think I would have loved it as much if I didn't have the audio guide. Hearing the history behind each piece makes everything seem so much more precious! Turned out to be one of my favorite places!
So, maybe I didn't read up enough on this, but I thought treasury meant jewelry. It's simply a collection of treasures that the Habsburg felt were important, meaning lots of religious relics and clothing. In fact, I can only recall 3 crowns and a handful of necklaces. The cost is 12 euro per adult, and they wanted another 4 euro...
