You can find all sorts of reasons to spend hours around that square like food, coffee, beer, ice cream, people watching, shopping…

we spent much of our evening wandering around in this area. You can't take your eyes off of this church. Its Gothic needles reaching to the sky. It is truly amazing to walk though such a historical building.

Great place for people watching. Almost as weird as Hollywood, CA too! This is a large square with St Stephen's cathedral in the center, spacious despite the people bustling about and allows for photo-taking of the exterior of the cathedral without obstruction. Yes, there's a cathedral, but it's surrounded by (essentially) an outdoor shopping mall. Vienna lost site of its history and allowed the commercial interests to run amuck.

Take the train to stephansplatz and roam around all of the shopping streets and visit the famous st. stephans cathedral. Lots of shopping, bars etc.

A bit lacking in character, compared with other nearby parts of the city.

Nice, but failed to see the fuss; in my view, there are far more interesting places to see.
