A subway ride to Heiligenstadt and then a bus up to Kallenberg let you access a wonderful view of this part of Austria and of Vienna. One can then wander back down through the Vienna Woods (made famous by Strauss), which we did on an earlier visit to Vienna, or through the vineyards that supply the wines for the Heurigen... More

The view would have been better on a nicer day. I enjoyed the walk and recommend the routes advertised (from Nussdorf, I took 1a) Kahlenberg was not as nice as Leopoldberg, so I carried on to HermannsKogek.

Easy to get to via public transportation, you can can walk in the Vienna Woods (get off the bus wherever you llke), admire the views and have lunch. But don't eat at the top of the Kahlenberg, eat a bit lower on the mountain at the Cafe Cobenzl.

If you are in Vienna between May and September, don't miss a trip up to Kahlenberg for the view and then meander down the hill stopping at all the vineyards along the way. You can end up in Grinzing just in time for a nice dinner and stroll through the gorgeous streets. Not to miss in Vienna!

My sister found Kahlenberg on Trip Advisor and said we HAD to go. We have been to Vienna too many times to count and had never been to Kahlenberg. We took the bus (38A) from Grinzing to Kahlenberg. The views are unbelievable. We walked back down to Grinzing via marked paths - about 2 - 2.5 miles. I would do... More

I read about Kalenberg on TripAdvisor and I am so happy I went.We took the 38A bus all the way to the top. The view of Vienna was breathtaking. We walked down the hill about 2.5-3 miles..just a beautiful experience.

If you spend more than two days in Vienna, and weather is fine this is definitely the trip to recommend! take a bus from Heiligenstadt or Grinzig (number 38A I believe), go till Kahlenberg, and then go down the slopping lane trough the forest and vineyards back to the town.

It was a hot summer's day and we had a cold beer on top of the hill overlooking Vienna. It was sunny but the view was a bit gassy. It could have been better, but it was a nice early afternoon all the same.

Taking the D tram into Nussdorf, getting off at the end, puts you on Beethovengang. You can follow a stream from the village, through woods, parks and vineyards all the way up to the Kahlenberg, then back down, stopping at a wine restaurant before taking a tram back into town. Couldn't be easier or prettier.
