Worth hiring a car to explore the area. Driving in snow although initially daunting was surprisingly easy with winter tyres. The scenery is stunning - definitely with a summer trio.

We took this cruise aboard the MS Nordkapp in on the 25th of January 2012 boarding at Tromso after a nights stay in the Radison blue hotel. THe check in / out at this hotel was the fastest I have ever experienced in all my travels, the hotel itself was clean as was our bedroom the most memorable thing was... More

Take the passenger ferry on a round trip from Tromso to Lignes and back - 2.5 hours of beautiful fjords waiting to be photographed! NOK169 per person but worth it...one of my highlights on a cold, wintry, sunny day

This was one of the optional extras on our trip on the Polarlys from Bergen to Kirkeness. We drove to the island of Kvaloya where we changed clothes and footwear, before hopping on board the sledges and letting the huskies pull us over the frozen landscape; enjoying stunning views of the ocean, mountains and open plateaus. It was dark -... More

I fell in love with Tromso when I saw the fjords from the plane window. And of course, that little cruise trip was wonderful.

The bus and ferry tour that meets up with the Hurtigruten leaves at 3.30 pm. In February this means it gets a dark before you even reach a fjord. The boat trip was ok but the lights on the boat made it difficult to see any northern lights. In later months it might be better
