This botanic garden is like no other, with plant you find in no other botanic garden around the world. Go there in late May, early June for the Rhododendrons (the low, Alpine variety) or in July for the fantastic blue poppies from the Himalayas and the Lewisias from the Rocky Mountains. Of course the sceneries and mountains/nature of Tromsø is more worth visiting, but if u stay for a while in tromsø you can visit this quite place and have a nice walk. Maybe the cafe is open too, its quite expencive but serves good waffels (also serves coffe, tea, icecream (industrial)
It didn't feel like a garden at all, more like walking through the woods. Will interest both the geologist and the botanist, as well as the ordianry tourist and nature lover.
Only in the summer can you see the beauty. Otherwise it's just a desolate place in other seasons.
Its free, its peaceful and really a hidden gem. During the summertime its beautiful there.
I guess people that are in love with plants are going to rate this higher.
It is a nice place for taking a walk, but the offer for the children is very limited. You do have the big green areas to sit and play with your kids but adults and children can get bored fast with the looking plants plan....

This small collection of alpine, rhododendron & native plants is worth a visit. The collection is fully labelled ( and correctly as well!), and consists mostly of alpine genera. There is ample evidence of plant collectors' numbers and habitat/place of origin. A very worthwhile visit for anyone with a basic interest in botanical horticulture.
The botanical garden along with a geological section is worth visiting. You will not only learn about flora and rocks, but it's a very peaceful experience. Did you know that Norway was once part of Antarctica? ;)
