This humble setting lets the ships mostly speak for themselves, but we were awe-inspired nonetheless. To be this close to these incredible, historic vessels left us nearly speechless. The supporting displays are equally interesting. Unfortunately, the exhibit descriptions aren't terribly verbose, so we didn't leave feeling we'd learned much more than we knew when we arrived. What a great experience...3 different ships and numerous artifacts recovered with them are on display and if you are into history etc., you will love this museum. Try a weekday, as it gets crowded on the weekends. more

Wow! This is a simple museum, but a very impressive one. The three Viking Ships (two in excellent condition, one much less so) are huge and simply awe-inspiring. The Viking Ship Museum is reached by a short ferry ride from Oslo. It is a 15-20 minute (although uphill!) walk from the ferry landing. The museum was reasonably priced and was just a short ferry ride away from downtown Oslo.Several large Viking ships were on display along with various artifacts. The whole museum can be toured in about 30 minutes. I was glad we went. more
