Of all the museum's in the city, this is my favourite, with a good comprehensive collection of modern and historical art, but a fantastic collection of Norwegian art, especially the landscapes and the Munch collection. Really good gift shop too! Buy a 50NOK pass and gain entrance to four museums, including this one, the decorative arts, contemporary arts and architecture... More

Came to learn about Norwegian painting. Excellent, varied collection, including Munch paintings. Recommend audioguide;selection and descriptions could be broadened

We went to the museum to see the "Painting Canada" exhibit, and was most pleasantly surprised about the calibre of the entire collection, and the curatorial display. Well worth the visit!

Beautiful artwork in a beautiful building ,and I never payed an entrance fee, could be that all my visits coincidentally where on sundays. So go on sunday, but it's worth it anyways. I actually prefer this museum to the Munch museum.

Wonderful norwegian paintings from the golden period. Take a closer look at the Screem and other famous paintings made from Munchs hand. The paintings will be moved to another museum within a two years period. A new museum is planned.close to Aker brygge. That is nice because the basement (storage rooms) are full of wonderful paintings which has not been... More

I'm not a massive art fan, but wanted to see The Scream by Munch, so went to the National Gallery. I really enjoyed the visit, there was lots to see and it was very informative. There is a charge to go in, but I think it's free on a sunday...

I loved this Gallery. I'm not an art expert, but I really enjoyed the few hours I spent wandering around here. I decided not to go to the Munch museum (pronounced Monk and not munch as I learned!), because I wanted to see more than just his art. There are about 5 copies of the Scream painting anyway, and one... More

For being not a very big city, Oslo's National Gallery hosts an impressive art collection from several of the greatest artists, as well as a lot of inspiring Norwegian ones. The Munch exhhibition is absolutely wonderful, with some of his greatest works of art.
