I love the fact that Oslo has several small islands just a short ferryride away. Hovedoya being the most visited, and most famous. It's a small island but it's still possible to find privacy on the island. It's a perfect summeractivity, Bring a picnicbasket, swimsuit (during summertime) and maybe a freesbee or something and spend the day. Remember to check... More

Do not miss the ruins from 11/12. century. Amazing historical ruins and brings people with fantacy back to the medevial times, I quiet place with a nice view over the Oslo fjord. Cannon replicas from early 1800 with historical arsenals. Ideal for picknics. Ferry from Oslo takes 5 minutes..

If it's not raining, this is defently a place you should go. Nice and peaceful nature just a short boat trip from the city center. Bring a grill and some food and prepare for a day at the beach / shore!

Take the ferry out to either this island in the summer and just chill out. The ferrey doesn't take more than max 10 min from the harbor.

Need to get some air and relaxation? Experience the Oslo fjord like the Norwegians do. The best thing, you can use the public transport ticket to get there.

Nice island to visit a summer day. 20 minutes by boat from Vippetangen. Beautiful view over Oslo from the seaside and nice places to swim on the island. Remember to bring a disposable grill, great food and drink. Main island has ruins of an old monastery.

Hovedøya is probably the most popular island in the Oslo fjords. The main attractions include the ruins of a monastery (Hovedøya Abbey), weapon depot, wooden canons and a puppet theater at the monastery ruins. There are regular ferries from Akerbrygge during summer. It's an ideal place to soak in the sun and enjoy some barbecue in Oslo. The view of... More

The main attraction is really to stroll around the island looking at the nature, the people, and maybe have a bath or a picnic. The island is one of the favourite retreats for the locals in the summer. There are a few buildings on Hovedøya, a monastery ruin is the main attraction, but for most it may not be worth... More
