On a beautiful day the grounds were wonderful. Quite a long hike from the carpark, but well sign posted Good to see a dog exercising area outside the gardens! Their rhododendrons have been hit with a fungus so most have been cut down. The garden walk is still very pleasant with lots of mature trees, and the managerie area of... More

Car park some distance from house but there is a free buggy. Lovely walks through fields and woods. If you arrive before the house opens at 1pm walk to the Obelisk lodge gate. Two dwellings one each side of the gate each held a family, either cozy or cramped or both! The house is not large, partly because the owner... More

Nostell Priory is perhaps best avoided by visitors with children or dogs from now until November as a result of the extensive deployment of extremely hazardous electric fences now bordering the pathways to the cafe, shop, gardens and ponds . The live, current baring wires are very difficult to see and discharge a significant and painful punch. The fences are... More

An interesting house with a Breughel painting and the Harrison clock. A really good playground, new cafe, lakes and interesting walks.

A really wet day when we visited so we only went in the house. We had a friendly welcome at the door and relieved of our coats and umbrella. There are lots of interesting things to see, from beautiful plasterwork and decorations to Chippendale and Gillows furniture. We were fully informed by the guides on duty of things pertaining to... A pleasant walk from the well managed car park leads you to the revamped stable area where plentiful refreshments we're available. Then followed a gentle amble through the relaxing Priory grounds, we timed our walk to finish as the house opened to visitors. Although the entrance area is in subdued lighting one soon becomes accustomed to the low light levels.... More

We took advantage of the National Trusts free day at Nostell Priory and had a good time. The house was interesting with lovely Chippendale pieces and the grounds were worth exploring although the parkland was better than the walk around the lake.

I visited on Easter Sunday, the grounds were full of families with children all having fun, Great! Then I visited the House, and immediately the atmosphere changed. A very 'indifferent' member of staff checked my NT membership and waved me on - no offer of a guide book or suggestion of special things to look for. The lower stone hall... More
