Brilliant venue great pieces inspirational Good for all family inc 4 year old
Been meaning to go since it opened 12 months ago. A large grey building of very drab appearance on a rainy day - could equally well have been part of a nuclear power station or a grain store (hard to guess from a distance). Pleasant location beside the canal wharf with rusting old boats and cranes nearby adding interest. The...

Barbara Hepworth’s work is displayed on the first floor gallery spaces which are certainly light and spacious. However, the overall gallery experience is somewhat disappointing. Firstly, the car park is way too small and you can easily spend time driving around looking for a space. When we eventually got a space, access to the gallery is via a utilitarian and...

this 1-year old art gallery has just been short-listed for 'Museum of the Year' - and well it deserves it. Attractive exterior, beautifully designed and lit interior, and a marvellous collection of Barbara Hepworth's works, including demonstrations of her method. Also housing currenlty 'Post War British Sculpture' exhibition, and various other contemporary works. On top of all, it has a...

What a great space, what a great design, what a setting standing in the river Calder and what a collection of the works of a great artist. We really enjoyed our visit and although the BOSS did not like the colour or design of the building she did like the setting. The views from the windows of the river are wonderful and...

beautiful building with exciting exhibition programme.
This place is a total wonder - to find world class exhibits in Wakefield! The building itself, a greyish purple jagged box, could at first be an eyesore, but I feel it deserves to stand out so that people sit up and take notice of what a gifted daughter of Wakefield Barbara Hepworth was.
The interior is easy to get...

A gem of a building, another very successful gallery space by architects David Chipperfield, set on the River Calder the building gives space to a wide collection of works by Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and others.
The cafe / restaurant offers a good choice of refreshments and the bookshop is well worth a visit.
Car parking is close by and...

Its a beautiful building, housing some of her finest sculptures, but when I arrived, two rooms were closed, three more were devoted to someone else's work, which left just half the museum open to see the eponymous work. It's a long way to come to be disappointed. The work doesn't always fit comfortably in the galleries, the sculptures looking like...

The setting by the river is lovely, the cafe very nice and the museum peaceful. However, there appeared to be a huge amount of space to display few works. The carvings were, well, blocks that represented something-or another.I love art & sculpture but not this. Its worth going once-to say you have been!
