The Chantry Chapel is one of the only surviving bridge chapels in the UK...and is the oldest. The interior is small but beautiful as is the outside. Great photo opportunities as it is located right on the river Calder, Easy to get to..walking distance; it's located just outside the center of Wakefield. There are still services on the first sunday... More

just across the road from the hepworth art gallery. original frontage is at kettlthorpe hall lake on a cycle path to newmillerdam.and about five miles from the heronry at wintersett

This Chantry Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin is situated on an "island" in the river Calder this "island" being attached to a Medieval Bridge (itself an ancient monument). This is the oldest and very ornate of the four surviving bridge chantrys in England, the others being Bradford-on-Avon, Rotherham, Yorkshire and St.Ives, Cambridgeshire.
