See "Playa Patagonia" with its 24 metre tunnel under the water to view sea lions swimming above your head and "Dragons of Komodo" for the infamous Komodo Dragons. At the "Spirit of Africa" you can see the breeding group of African elephants and at "Kingdom of the Wild" there's Zebras, Ostriches, White Rhinos, and Giraffes in a huge savannah style enclosure. Orangutan Forest opens 2009. Don't miss the chance to feed the elephants and giraffes yourself plus lots of other daily displays. « less

We went to Colchester Zoo and had a brilliant day out with our 4 years old grandaughter. We arrived early and although it was a cold day it managed to keep fine. There was plenty to see we spent 5 hours just walking around, and catered for all ages/ It is pram and wheelchair friendly. There were plenty of play parks... More

Colchester zoo is a fantastic place with lots to see and do. I have always lived in Colchester and have grown up with the zoo. They are always updating, adding and improving the facilities for both the animals and visitors. There are many animals you can hand feed at set times, or watch others such as the lions and tigers... A lot of the reviews give opinions based on families with children etc, so I thought I would write mine as I have no children and have only visited the zoo with similar aged people to myself (24-29) When the weather is nice, do expect to wait a little while to get your tickets bought as it gets very busy,... The play park was fantastic just fantastic all the kids loved it probably more than the zoo Good choice of food. Was a bit like a theme park a different eatery... More

Back to the zoo with teenagers after not having been there for years and what a transformation! Loads more to do and see. We had arranged a sloth experience for my daughter and whilst this isn't one of their normal experiences they were more than happy to accommodate us. She got to enter the enclosure with monkeys and hand-feed the... More

Best zoo in the south east, probably the best in the UK. Great exhibits, great lay out. Can spend all day here or just a few hours. The gold pass is fantastic value.

Only decided to visit Colchester zoo on the recommendation of a friend and was not expecting much. What a pleasant surprise! We've been to zoos in London, France and Rotterdam but we all agree Colchester zoo beats the others hands down! We spent 4 hours but did not get to see everything. We got to feed the giraffes which was... More

We recently went here with our little nephew and were very impressed. There are a lot of shows and animal feeds throughout the Zoo and many small play areas for the kids as well as lots of fun animals to visit around the zoo. You can take a picnic and there are lots of eating areas as well as places... More
