Lovely buildings but you really need a guide to tell you their histories (there are often guided tours, go to the Torist Information office for details).
Wonderful old world architecture and feeling of area
Everything.... there's plenty of interesting buildings in the Dutch Quarter.
This is an area of Colchester nearby Williams and Griffin, the independent department store, these are genuine homes built around the 1600's which families live in today. They are privately owned .
Colchester is Britain's oldest recorded town and the Dutch Quarter still has some fantastic old buildings that have been restored/maintained lovingly to keep them in great shape.
Went there once and stayed for the duration of meal - nuffzed!
Close to town centre mainly consists of old buildings that are either used as homes or for business.
Forget trying to negotiate the narrow, hilly streets by car for a view of this area, park up and walk!
