Located in a beautiful area of the Wye Valley so make sure the weather is better for a pic-nic. A few nice pubs are here too.

Have visited the fantastic, beautiful old abbey many times and never tire of it, so haunting and impressive. It's lit up at night time, and you sit in the wonderful Anchor pub across from the abbey, enjoying a drink, with a awesome view.

The is a must-see for visitors to the Wye Valley. We were there on a showery afternoon, and the green valley and ruined stone walls were mystical. It's a very spiritual place as well.

If you like old ruin set against some great countryside then this place is worth the visit. You can check out the Abbey ruins from the outside of the fencing. It stands quite majestic by the roadside. But for a little under £4 an adult you can wander around the place and imagine going back 800 years. Great setting, wonderful... More

We bought a 3 day 2-person explorer pass here which gave us access to all the CADW-run sites in Wales while we were visiting. You can see the ruins of the abbey from the road without paying, but walking through the site was far more interesting. Despite the light rain, it was lovely to wander around and explore the ruins... Whenever we have family visiting from overseas, Tintern Abbey is a must on their itinerary. Easily reached by car from north via Monmouth) or south (via Chepstow) there is ample parking next to the abbey itself or the pubs close by. The abbey is a ruin as a result of the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII and subsequent... More
