We have eaten on the GCR first class dining car for many meals - saturday and sunday lunch and saturday dinner, we have always had wonderful food and service, today however was quite different to the usual standard. We arrived and opted to sit on the train rather than have a drink in the station bar as it was a... More

This is a lovely experience. It is like being on the set of a film based on a novel by Agatha Christie! The vintage steam trains that are used for the service are very well kept and you can reserve your table for a lovely meal. Food quality and service are very good, the atmosphere is really enjoyable and the... More

Expensive compared with other steam railways we have been on. Very busy when we visited for a Peppa Pig weekend. Journey not that interesting

Liked - the nostalgia of an well-remembered golden age of train travel. Disliked - too many old decaying passenger coaches which are probaly past saving.

Visited to take an elderley relative on a day out. Trains and carriages a very good reminder of times gone by. The stations were well decorated too - each one a different period in history. But a big disappointment was the on train and Loughborough station catering. We had a great cup of coffee at the restaurant at Quorn station... More

We booked a meal on the Charnwood Forester on a Saturday evening in April. From the monemt we boarded we were made to feel very welcome. The food was first class as was the atmosphere. The train left Loughborough at around 7pm travelled through the Leicestershire countryside making a number of stops and returned to Loughborough at around 10pm. The... More

We thought it was all over much too quickly and very expensive for what you actually get. Perhaps I was disappointed because I am of an age to remember steam railways when they were common place. Maybe the younger generatin who only know electric trains will find it more worthwhile.

It was minus 8 on the morning we went to catch the train - My husband, originally from Loughborough, hadn't been on the trip before. Unfortunately both the steam and the diesel train had broken down. The staff were great though and we were able to move the tickets to a forward date and had family members use them. We... More
