The area in general is beautiful and the local attractions are reasonably priced. Puzzlewood and Symmonds Yat are recommended.

We didnt realise there were so many lakes in the area and we walked round nearly all of them. The wild boar and their young were also an unexpected delight to watch, and the variety of trees and wildlife and the well placed paths for cycling, walking & running make this a wonderful relaxing place to visit.

The Forest of Dean is a great place to be on a weekend break. We have visited the Kyimin, which offered great views across the Wye Valley and the surrounding yellow fields of rapeseed, and the Royal Forest of Dean, where the bluebells were in full bloom. Symonds Yat also offers fantastic views of the River Wye, so worth making... More

At this time of the year the forest is a great place to see some of our summer woodland birds, especially, pied flycatcher, redstart, wood warbler, as well as many resident forest residents. With the leaf cover yet to thicken it is ideal for identification of birds in the foliage and canopy.

Look out for wild boar crossing the roads. Ideal place to stay to see the other famous bore - The Severn Bore tidal wave

The main centre of Beechenhurst Lodge was great. It has a large adventure playground that suited my 8yr old, including a flying fox and lots of other interesting equipment. Also a fenced off section for younger children. A nice coffee shop, heaps of picnic tables, a tourist information office and shop. Walks and bike rides start here & there is... More

The forest is such a delightful place to walk. We even had a close encounter with a wild boar!
