We were given a tour by a leading geologist, Dr Roger Higgs who has studied and written about this unique rock formation. His knowledge and enthusiasm for his subject and the area more generally provided us with a fascinating few hours. Roger is a wonderful guide and manages to use his expertise to explain the history and evolution of teh Bude Formation to non-geoleogists. A highly recommended and unique experience is this most beautiful coastal stretch. « less

If you have ever looked at the landscape around you and wondered how it got to be like that then Roger is the man for you - if not, why not? You will never look at rocks the same way again and Bude's cliffs and buildings are a great place to start - Roger's passion for his subject will have... More

Dr Roger is knowledgeable and interesting. The tour gives you a perspective of Bude beach that you will not have previously appreciated. A really enjoyable few hours with a lovely guide. Thank you.

My knowledge of geology was pretty much zero and yet Dr Higgs was able to impart his vast knowledge and make it fascinating. I’m not sure I will ever look at the cliffs again without wondering about the history behind them. Did you know that Bude was once a lake? Ever heard about hummocky cross stratification? – no, well neither... More

I highly recommend Dr Roger Higgs' geology walk for anyone who is interested in finding out more about Bude. I am a university student studying geography and the two hour walk was more beneficial than a lot of my lectures! It was fascinating to find out how Bude came to be, and from such an enthusiastic source. Dr Higgs was... More

Roger Higgs is a very knowledgeable and engaging man, capable of making the geology of Bude interesting even to teenagers! Great way to spend a few hours and learn something new.

This tour along a short stretch of the Bude coastline is to be highly recommended. Roger is an excellent amiable guide. The two hour tour flew by and we were left with a fascinating array of information to mull over. The highlight had to be after Roger drew an example of a fossilized fish trail in the sand, my dad... We have just returned from a short break in North Cornwall and this tour was definitely a highlight. The Bude coastline is beautiful and it was fascinating to hear about the formation of the spectacular features found there. The walk was fun as well as interesting, with an extremely knowledgeable guide (Roger Higgs) who is friendly and willing to answer... More

You know that museum feeling?...you see the work / picture / document and you realise that once the living hand of the artist moved right there. Well, take a walk with Roger Higgs along the wild-open Bude beaches, and, a little way past the harbour, the beach-huts and cafes, as he talks, you'll start to get a different feeling, that... More
