Take time to walk around while you are visiting the cathedral and soak in the atmosphere.

Loved the buildings steeped in history surrounding palace Green.Very peaceful to sit awhile and take it all in.

Too much construction, at the moment, but very attractive. Good place to sit and watch the world go by!

Last visited when Durham had it Durham by light exhibition on (end of Nov) - great seeing things projected on the Cathedral.

Palace green is a large grass area surrounded by the oldest and most historic buildings in Durham City. Cathedral, Castle, University Library are all part of this world heritage site. As you approach the site there is a new visitor centre on Owengate where you can find out more information to enhance yur visit.

not a lot to do here, other than look at the beautiful Cathedral - which more than make up for the lack of things to do, although there is sometimes markets and small events held here which are quite good

Before actually visiting the Cathedral, you enter Palace Green. This is surrounded by old buildings some were Alms Houses. The Castle can also be viewed from here.This is a very peacefull area, where people sometimes just go to sit and read and maybe just to gatherer thoughts.The University are now responsible for some of these buildings and next year St.Cuthbert's... Great to sit outside and enjoy the view of the cathedral, the castle and the bishops house..... better when students have gone home.
