Travelled from Port Erin to Douglas and return and it was fabulous, lovely sunny mid May day, stunning coastal views and wonderful rural landscapes with an abundance of spring flowers on display. Lovely historic station buildings which are beautifully maintained and all the staff are so friendly and helpful offering advice and guidance on places to visit.

A really great experience. It was £23.50 return for 2 adults to Port Erin, the furthest point. Beautiful olde worlde station, great train and views. I asked if we got off at Port St Mary could we walk to the Sound but they said it'd be a good 1.5 hrs so we didn't bother. It was April but we were... More

An enjoyable hour long trip under steam with historic rolling stock, through varied Manx countryside to the pleasant small resort of Port Erin. Possible to stop off in Castletown en route, where there is the interesting Castle Rushen and a very well thought out multi-media presentation in the original House of Keys (need to book, limited number of places available).... A step back in time. Beautiful scenery and quaint stations. Recommend picking up a 'Rail Ale ' leaflet which identifies the best pubs near stations on the Steam Railway ( and the Electric Railway). A must if you're visiting the Island.

A hint: a good spot for taking pictures is at Castletown where the trains pass each other.

We got the steam train from Port Erin up to Douglas, the train interior was so cosy, nice little compartments with windows that open,I loved the smell of the train and the whistle and the gentle rocking motion. All the stations are very well preserved and it was definately like stepping back in time, its no wonder the train guard and drivers look so... This a pure Victorian gem, now looking absolutely immaculate, which chugs and clatters its way from Douglas to Port Erin via Port Soderick, Santon, Ballasalla and Castletown. The steam locos date back to 1873-1905. The carriages are a century or more old. Lots of special events now being organised to appeal to train buffs and "normals" alike, so worth checking... More
