Visitors can look out from its high stone walls to the battlefields of Stirling Bridge where great medieval armies clashed to decide the fate of nations. Home to generations of Scottish monarchs including, Mary Queen of Scots, the Castle is an enduring and powerful reminder of our fascinating history. « less

Stirling Castle sits atop a volcanic rock and from its ramparts you get spectacular views of Scotland. The first mention of Stirling dates back to the late 11th century but there has been some sort of fortification on the site for the past 3,000 years. Royal involvement with Stirling started with Alexander l. He was the first of a long... More

It is a few years since I last visited the castle. I was desperate to get back and see the Palace after the extensive renovations ~ it is magnificent and breathtaking. The 'actors' bring it to life and the interactive displays are engaging for children (and adults!) It was so good I had two visits during our weekend in Stirling.... More

We were staying in Edinburgh and wanted to do something cultural. We looked through some tourist informations and found the Stirling Castle. It looked interesting, so we took our rental car and headed for Stirling. It was a nice drive through the countryside. Then we arrived in Stirling. The castle didn't look like much from outside. But anyways....we parked the... More

Great to go round with the guides - so knowledgeable and they bring the castle alive! On a good day with clear visibility views are stunning. Nice cafe (and hope they get the leaks fixed soon for when its raining) otherwise nice layout.

If you only see one Castle: See Stirling Castle over The Edinburgh Castle. See my review on Edinburgh Castle. My wife and I liked this castle better, it showed you how living and working in a castle was like. The train trip was worth it you get to see some of the country side and glimpses of the local towns... More

Wind and rain couldn’t keep us away from this castle, but it did deter others and we had it almost to ourselves. Excellent castle guides dressed in period costumes described life and times back when Stirling Castle was a true stronghold. Magnificent views from every angle. The regimental museum depicts Scottish military and its involvement in past battles. There were... More

If there's one thing I've noticed during my sojourns across Scotland, its how seriously the locals take their job of looking after their historic sites. A good thing too, as there's a few of them, all with their own unique character, and Stirling Castle is no different. With great views everywhere you look, helpful and friendly staff (the hourly free... More

I thought I was castled out after many castle visits in England, France and Scotland but I truly enjoyed our visit to Stirling Castle. First, it was a manageable size. Second, the free guided tour (on the hour) was EXCELLENT! The guide was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. The costumed interpreters expressed their characters very well and the... We got a tour and a guide to tell us the history of the castle. It was very interesting. Just loved it.
