As a student of Victorian history I was keen to visit the Old Town Jail. I stopped in on one of my many visits to Stirling Castle and was disappointed by the too-theatrical presentation and the lack of context or depth of historical analysis which could bring this up from mere entertainment into educational. It was our last day and this attraction was very close to our hotel. It looks very impressive from the outside but inside its a disappointment. Only the basement and the very top floor are used in the tour as the middle two floors are used as offices. I used our free child entry voucher that came with the Stirling...

We visited the old jail during a 2 night break in Stirling.
The staff were excellent, very welcoming and actors great. We didn't have kids but even as an adult I was scared due to the acting being so good!! It was fab to get an insight into the history of the jail which has been magnificantly restored.
