I am surprised by the negative reviews. I accept this Castle is not like the average 'National Trust' Property. As mentioned by other reviewers we were greeted at the door, paid the £5.50 each, and were sent off to explore (and were told no photos inside). How refreshing to be left to out own devices to investigate the numerous rooms... More

This is a castle from the 1400s that has been carefully restored and turned into a hotel and visitor attraction. I stayed for two nights here. This is a wonderful place to stay if you want to have the smell, feel, and sounds of history around you. You will encounter period furniture, crooked floors, a large-but-leaky bathtub, and possibly ghosts... More

Gwydir has been a house I have wanted to visit again for many years. I had been in the 1960s when the local bank manager, Arthur Clegg and family, had restored the house from ruin and opened it to the public. Such fond, happy memories! Having read 'Castles in the Air' by Prudy Corbitt, I was shocked to find no... More

Having read the book "Castles in the Air" I wanted to visit and found to my delight passing it one day, that it was open. Gwydir Castle is privately ownedopening times listed at the end of this review. The grounds are amazing mostly formal with peacocks strutting around and displaying their colours and fountains and yew trees in formation, the... More

We were married at Gwydir Castle as well as staying for the weekend. The location is breathtaking. Hidden away, and not the least bit commercial, this lovely home of Judy and Peter must been seen. Guests were blown away by the unique house, the story of it's restoration and the beautiful grounds. Tranquil, atmospheric, full of history. B&B rooms are... More

I love that this place is sort of off the beaten path and has an intersting history.

A most enjoyable stay, hospitality excellent, castle and gardens a joy to see. The castle has been painstakingly restored to its former glory. Would highly recommend a second visit. Keep up the good work. Billy and Lily Walker

After reading "Castles in the Air" I booked a weekend B&B here as a birthday present. It is a stunning castle and we were the only guests so we had a free run of the house and grounds. There are several majestic peacocks in the grounds and the owners were extremely friendly and pleasant. We were able to wander at... More
