In the 12th century the building was an enclosed beguinage (beguines: virgins and widows who originally joined monastery-like communities out of religious and economic reasons). In 1437 the monastery was abolished as beguines were no longer tolerated by the Church (1311, Council of Vienne, Isère Department). Afterwards the building was used as wine House.
