Hire a guide and learn more about Greek and Roman culture as you explore temples built before Christ was born. You are allowed to wander amongst the sites which is on high spot above the Mediterranean. This is one of my favorite places in the world! more

Take your camera, a hat and comfortable walking shoes. Do some research beforehand. Wonderful site with views to the ocean. Doric temples in good condition although you can only view them from outside. Don't forget to take note of the vegetation as you do the walk. more

When my wife and I were in Agrigento we arranged for a private tour of the Valley of the Temples and the Archeological Museum with Michele Gallo (www.sicilytravel.net/Agrigento_tours.htm ) from a recommendation in Lonely Planet Sicily Travel Guide. We were very happy with the tour! Michele picked us up at our Hotel and drove us to the Archeological Park and... more

First of all, I agree that the site contains some nice temples, however I think it is way too commercialized; aside from the sun and air, you are charged for almost anything: 1. Parking in either "side" of the valley costs 3 Euros - no problem there, the eastern car park (Via Crispi) is less crowded. 2. Combined entrance to... more

The temples and ruins themselves are absolutely amazing. Apparently these are the best preserved temple ruins in the world. The site is spread out and requires a bit of walking. Most of the signage is old and faded and ALL of the signage is in Italian. There are no signs or brochures in any other language. We visited at the... more

Nothing can prepare you for the sight of these magnificent ruins. They are just simply massive! If your dates are flexible, I would suggest visiting during low season when the temperature will be cooler and the crowds will be thinner. We were there at the end of March and at high noon, the sun was super hot so I can... more

It was not especially crowded. I recommend hiring a guide - I believe our hotel recommended our guide - which was money well spent. These temples are far better preserved than the ones in Greece. Enjoy! more

Just returned from Sicily, can't wait to go back there is so much to see one week is not enough. I spent two days just at the Valley of the Temples, took over a hundred photo's and just marvled at the beauty of these ancient temples. The only problem I had is that even though I am Italian I can't... more
