Caserta palce is a beautifull building surrounded by an ugly town. Rubbish everywhere. Be prepared for the windscreen cleaners, water sellers etc at most traffic lights on the approach. Historic not very interesting. Gardens are large, nice to walk in but nothing better than walking in any forrest. Do not go insite the palace. Unless you are a die hard fan of southern Italian Baroque/Roccoco architecture, just look at Vanvitelli's staircase at the landing is all you need.
