Its Renaissance Architecture. The family Estense played and important role in the city's history. Lucrecia Borja married an Estense. They were tyranic, but gave support to artists and helped building a beautiful renaissance city, Ferrara. Their are many stories about this family. Stories that could be in the movies

If you like to wriggle through the little doors of dungeons and to climb up the tower to view panorama, that is the place for you. If you have time you can read very educative explanations about the castel and the life in it (e.g. about the feasts in the castel). Also you can admire ceiling freskoes without twisting your... Ferrara strike me unexpectedly. The rich Este family ( and others i supose) made a town full of amazing palazzos. This a large and imponent monument you must see, go up to the tower to have a beautiful vue of the city.

The castle has a moat and is well designed with a bridge over waterworks. Most of the internal space is not available to the public. It is a Ferrara landmark.

We only visited external area, and inside courtyard, it is very impressive. Do not miss in springtime every Sunday morning there is a traditional show of 8 Contrade of Ferrara, with original costumes of Este period.

Ferrara has many attractions - all to be visited - and the castle is definitely in the list. Take a guided tour and don't save the money for clmbig in the tower, since is worth. Guides are competent and nice and will make your visit interesting, understanding better the story of the place. Amazing the orange garden and impessive the... More

If you have seen the Palazzo Ducale in Mantova, this will be a great disappointment. The frescoes aren't half as interesting nor as colorful as those in Ducale. Most rooms are at best bare. Not worth the 8 euro entrance fee.

More
