This is a somewhat interesting but rundown facility but it can hold worldclass art exhibitions which are well represent in the large rooms with good lighting. Through June 17, 2012 there is an outstanding presentation "Sorolla: Gardens of Light" featuring the Spanish painter's bright and happy paintings of Spanish gardens including those in Seville and Grenada.
The Palazzo dei Diamanti (Diamond Palace) has an extensive collection of beautiful paintings. I'd recommend visiting AFTER touring the Castello Estense, (Este Castle) as some of the artwork referenced in the castle history is actually hanging in the Palazzo dei Diamanti. The front sides of the palace are entirely covered with pyramidal diamond shapes made of marble. Amazing! Palazzo Prosperi-Sacrati is just opposite. The Castle is just up the road. Palazzo Massari and Parco Massari are round the corner. Piazza Ariostea is only few meters after. The Certosa (monumental cemetery) is a short walk away.
