After viewing Pompei, the Colliseum, the Roman Forum and other Roman sites in France, I find that the Paestum temples are my favorite. Pompei and the Roman Forum are, well, ruins; though even older, the temples here are still standing. Beyond that, things are very accessible and lack the mobs of tourists found at other attractions. Paestum is serene. If... More

A beautiful site in a peaceful setting. Take a picnic and water and spend the day there. If it's not the weekend [and so relatively quiet] it's a peaceful spot and you can imagine living in this ancient site. It's not a big place so you could view it in a couple of hours but if you want to absorb... More

Went with Goldentours day trip from Sorrento runs every week on a Tuesday, other than hiring a car you may be pushed to get there. The site is very well worth a visit, the temples are in amazing condition and entry includes entry to the museum. Be aware that they are really anti camera tripod - they seem to think... More

Maybe because of the beginning of the tourist season, but the area was overgrown with grass. Some of the signboards became poorly readable. The three temples are serene magnificent, especially one hour before closing time, but for the rest, the mosaics, statues, frescoes or reconstructions you need to be in the museum. From all what has been recovered there is... More

The Greek ruins at Paestum are lovely, evocative, well-preserved, and very pleasant to visit. We had seen some groups of Italian school children visiting earlier in the day but by the time we got out there (after visiting the museum) e practically had the place to ourselves. More

The three standing temples are astounding. The other structures which are not in the same excellent shape are mostly Roman and were built about three hudred years after the Greek temple. The area was over run with high grass that the workman were cutting while we were there. I am sure the expense is dictating the lack of landscaping and it... More

These temples are a rarely visited, but superb examples of classical Greek Temples. They are in amazingly well preserved condition, some with pillars and tops intact. As it is not a typical site for those visiting Italy, the crows are small and you can enjoy an unhurried visit. well worth the trip!! More

The size and scale of the ruins is astounding. The ruins can be seen easily from the outside of the enclosure. We had gotten there at 6:10 pm and were turned away by the uncaring staff of the museum BUT we walked along the fence to the exit and the most wonderful staff person saw us and welcomed us in-...
