Quedlinburg is a very small place. It is not overrun with tourists or "souvenir" shops. Much of the altstadt is for pedestrians and it's a very walkable town. At least in April, it pretty much closes up shop about six pm. There may be four or five cafes on the marketplatz but only one stays open into the evening. As... More

Not being of any military or economic importance, Quedlinburg has survived bombs, architects and DDR planning officers with its charming character intact and can now reap the rewards in terms of tourism. Having said that, fortunately, not too many tourists have discovered it as yet (perhaps a reason for NOT writing a review!). Nonetheless, a visit to the Harz region... More

Hundreds of old, and newer half-timbered houses, old castle, beautiful historic church. The city was the seat of emperors a 1000 years ago.

Quedlingburg is a slightly dusty jewel of a place; all the better for not being swanky bright and tourist delighty. We went on a Sunday in January and enjoyed the startling charm of the Rathaus (If I'd been taken there blindfold, I'd've sworn I was in Italy when I could see again), the expanse of the main square (which is... The clooegiat church St. Servatius, the Castle and the old town of Quedlinburg belong to the Unesco World Heritage. The fascination of Quedlinburg is found in its narrow winding streets, paved with ancient cobble stone and lined with over 1300 half-timbered houses. Outstanding example of medieval origin has been perserved through the centuries. The greatest attraction is Quedlinburg itself.

If you have just one day but want to see the Old Town, use this little Tourist train. It is not so comfortable because of the old roads - you will even have some after-shakes at the end of the tour. But you will see the most important items.

This old town, takes your breath away, specially at night, the lighted houses, streets, churches. As I was travelling off-season, I can only imagine how good it is in the middle of the summer. Definitely place to visit.

We thought this was easily the nicest place in the Harz mountain area. A vast number of beautiful half timbered houses. Much more interesting than Wernigerode or Goslar.
