We really like Meersburg castle and have visited it many times over the year. You can feel the age of the place, there's lots to see, and it has good views over the town and the lake. The cafe is attractive and does good coffee and cake, you can go to the cafe on its own without taking a tour...

Meersburg Castle, on the German shores of Lake Bodensee (aka Lake Constance), was a very pleasant surprise! We were met by a real, live knight complete with basic armour and sword who told us where to purchase the entry ticket (around 15 euro for two), and showed us across the moat via the drawbridge and into the castle. The tour at Meersburg Castle was fascinating. Upon entering across the draw bridge, family crests are visibale for many generations, also the draw bridge mechanism itself was impressive.
