Lovely to be able to walk around an unrestored castle. Grab a torch and explore underground dark passages and climb towers to get great views across the Rhine.

Well worth the time and effort----ruins of what was a great castle. Lots of interesting history but check ahead to make certain they are open----it depends on the time of year and the weather.

HUGE castle, great view of the Rhine. Gives a real sense of why so many castles were built in the Rhine valley.

One thing that we really liked was that we could go at our own pace. Between the handout from the ticket office and our guidebook, we had enough information to really get a feel for the layout. It's in a gorgeous area with wonderful views. We were surprised to see a family picnicking on the lawn, but what fun they... More

like the compound in general, also handy access. easily accessible by own car, there is a carpark next to the compound. Views from there to the river, and town are very nice. Dislike - not too much to see or experience, and quite windy.

Really fun castle ruins, lots of tight places and neat tunnels. Very interesting and well worth a visit. Bring a flashlight!

We arrived here as our last stop on our river cruise. The town is touristy as are all along the river with castle and boat stops. It didn't stop us from walking up to the castle to explore. We were told upon entering they close at 6 pm. We saw the museum the only complete room in the castle. In... More

We enjoyed our visit to the castle but felt that in England most of the castle would We enjoyed our visit to the castle but felt that in England we wouldn't have been allowed in most areas because of Health and Safety concerns. In the pouring rain we negotiated steep stairways and walked over slippy boarding. The museum was interesting.

My daughter (age 18) and I explored Burg Rheinfels on a day that started with rain. We only had the one day for this, so we forged ahead despite the weather. I am really glad we did. We were caught in a downpour on the way there, and waited under a tree, until the rain started making its way through... More
