The castle itself is nice enough, the rooms kind of disappointing but true to life I suppose- I'm used to opulent British castles so I could be judging it unfairly there. The little town of Gruyeres itself is lovely, and the views from the castle are spectacular.

Tied in with a visit to Le Maison Cailler on the same day and it was fab. The village operates as a medieval one with wood turners and the like open for business. Castle is good value and interesting, with a video on the history shown beforehand. Crepes and fondue available in the many cafe's. Views from the top.are stunning.

The interior self-guided tour will take between 20 and 45 minutes ... depends on how much you read or if you just walk and look. The ramparts... More

There is a cool digital presentation at the beginning that is just the right length, then you tour on your own. One of the few castles that still has the walls intact and that you can freely explore. Our 6 year-old love it and we were there a full 2 hours taking photos and acting like Kings and Queens. Put... More

Did not have time to go inside, but the views from the castle were awesome. Worth the walk.
